This is a lovely pair of antique Edwardian Lorgnette Opera Glasses or Spectacles with a lovely Tortoise Shell Case.
These eyeglasses are approximately 4 inches wide with each lens being1 inch by 1 3/8 inches wide. The handle which also doubles as a glass case is a total of 5 inches long.
The glasses mechanism of these glasses is quite amazing for their time. There is a tiny latch attached to a spring inside which, when released, allows the glasses to spring out and automatically unfold. They can then be stored back inside the case where one lens lays over the other in a folded position.
A lorgnette is a pair of spectacles with a handle used to hold them over your eyes rather than having actual glasses with frames and held in place by your ears. These glasses can be used for a quick look at a menu, phone, book or anything else that you would like to get a quick view of. These types of Lorgnettes were worn popularly in the 1900 century and were commonly worn as a fashion statement hung on a nice chain.
• Condition is Very Good to Excellent – Spring is a bit tired, but with a little help, the glasses pop out of the case; Button on the other side where the glasses come out is a lock mechanism that needs to be pulled so the eyeglasses are released
• There are no hallmarks on this item – estimated age is circa 1890s
• Metal tests as Gold Filled – 1/20
• An Organza pouch will be provided with these glasses for safe keeping in a purse
• A beautiful black chain is attached – 22 inches in length with a nice lobster clasp

What are my shipping Charges?
Currently, all Domestic orders will be shipped free of charge. **International folks, unfortunately I do need to charge a shipping fee of $20.00 to help offset my costs... apologies for that!! Any charges over $20.00, I will incur.
Does this shop do Layaway or Payment Plans?
Yes, we do Layaway and Payment Plans. If you are interested in a payment plan for any item in my shop, please reach out to me and I'll work with you to set up a plan that works for you. I'll make every effort to make sure that you are able to get the item that you love!
Can you make me a Reduced Price Offer on an item?
Yes! REASONABLE offers are welcome and seriously considered.
How are RETURNS Handled?
If you chose to return an item, please reach out to me so that I know that the item is being returned and I can be sure to look for it in my future mail. Most items will be refunded fully. The EXCEPTION is if you have a ring resized. Unfortunately, I am forced to minus the cost of the ring sizing from the total amount that it was purchased for. Sizing costs can range from $25 to $50 dollars dependent on the ring size difference and whether the base metal of the ring is silver or gold. The most common cost to me is $35.00 for most rings. The remainder of the amount of the item will be refunded to you just as soon as I receive the item back.
